I came across Tuhina Rasche's work through a friend and when I began reading and following her activism and social justice commentary along with her unique approach and experience to faith, religion and politics especially as a POC in the largely white Lutheran space, I knew I needed to talk to her.
Tuhina is pastoring Lutheran-style in Silicon Valley, is an (un)intended disruptor and loves and is freaked out by Jesus. She's an Indian-American living life in the hyphen and is the editor of #FuckThisShit.

Today I had the pleasure of speaking with my friend Christine Watson. She also has a passion and purpose of serving humanity and has been working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual sssault for more than 11 years. She started her human services work in England upon her graduation with a Master’s Degree in English Literature and now works and lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In her current job, Christine acts as a dual supervisor for a 24 hour on-call program which offers assistance to survivors immediately following an assault as well as legal advocates who supports survivors as they engage with the criminal and civil judicial process. Christine also acts as a trainer for the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES). Christine is an activist, a humanist and a listener.
To connect with any non-profit that provides resources and support for survivors fo sexual assault and domestic violence, simply do an internet search in your community. There are also similar organizations on college campuses and appreciate student volunteers.
Christine mentioned vicarious trauma and you can understand more about that concept here.

I started working with Scott Jacobson, MD, a family and functional medicine doctor at a primary care office when I was a clinical health coach about four years ago. Irena was homeschooling their sons at the same time so periodically they would drop by the office to say hello. I became close to the two of them and we have had several brunches, lunches and/or dinners over the years and they are always fun and go a little deeper than that which is one of the things I am most grateful for about Irena and Scott's friendship. They're always a safe place to land and we can talk about anything and everything and often do.
Scott and Irena have been practicing mindfulness for years and for them that includes tai chi, qigong, yoga, meditation and acro yoga for years. Their mindfulness practice has also influenced their sons as well and countless others. On this podcast they will explore what self-care looks like to them, travel, meal prep and of course acro yoga and what it's done for their relationship.

I met Jennifer Simons for the first time at a Whole Foods in Las Vegas, NV. Both of us are Michigan natives (aka Mitten Sisters) yet we were living in Las Vegas and had completed the curriculum from Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) to become certified holistic health counselors. Jennifer is an intuitive healer, a licensed massage therapist, kettlebell coach, travel connoisseur, essential oil mixologist and lives a vegan lifestyle with love, compassion and patience as her foundation. She manifests what she wants and has traveled to many far flung parts of our planet, often alone. Today she's on the podcast to discuss self0care, her journey with travel and manifestation along with the reminder that self-care is not a luxury, rather, it is a necessity.

I will likely need to finally make it to San Francisco to meet Lisa Frederiksen, founder of BreakingTheCycles.com and SHD Prevention. Lisa Frederiksen has a 39-year career in executive management, consulting, speaking, training and writing and has written more than 800 articles about substance use disorder and recovery along with eleven books, including, "Addiction Recovery: What Helps, What Doesn't," "Secondhand Drinking: The Phenomenon That Affects Millions," and “If You Loved Me, You’d Stop!”
She is a national keynote speaker with over 25 years speaking experience, consultant, trainer, and frequent guest on radio, TV, and Internet radio shows. In 2016, she celebrated 35 years recovery from eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia) and 13 years recovery from secondhand drinking. We are kindred spirits because, she like me, is interested in changing the conversations around many of these difficult topics.

I met Quenette Walton, PhD when I was a freshman at the University of Michigan and she was a sophomore. We finished our undergraduate degrees and then were in contact sparingly until we reconnected this year (2016) while both living in California. She had completed her PhD at the University of Illinois and was continuing her research, teaching and seeing clients while pursuing her post-doc at UCLA.

Whitney and I went through a yoga teacher training together in 2014. She has since developed a program called Yoga E-Motion which trains certified yoga teachers to be aware of a multitude of issues their students may be experiencing so that they can learn to direct them to appropriate resources and community partners such as therapists, detox centers, eating disorder clinicians, substance use treatment centers, etc. She also has a private practice in which she, too, provides various evidence-based treatments such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

I have yet to meet David Rachford in person, yet we connected via Facebook Messenger initially and then subsequently by phone and Skype. I read an article for which he was interviewed in Yoga Journal and I thought it would be lovely to connect with him because he is former military (he was a Navy firefighter) and is a certified yoga teacher. We started working on possible collaborations as he works with established entrepreneurs and business owners who want to share their story, attract their ideal customer and change the world. Today he's on the podcast to discuss self-care, his journey to yoga and how congruency with our values is part of self-care and can help keep us in alignment...no pun intended!

I still haven't met Rachel Bertner yet, but I'm praying that I do soon because she's a soul sister. She's currently part of the amazing team at Healing Broken Circles and she teaches incarcerated people yoga as well as trauma sensitive yoga to survivors of eating disorders and sexual assault. She's got an amazing heart that is bent towards reconciliation, compassion, hope and love.
